A native to central and eastern Europe this tuberous perennial has quite attractive foliage that can grow up to about 1 m tall. In early summer an impressive dark purple to black arum like flower will emerge which has the smell of rotten flesh for a few days. This smell attracts carrion insects which will help to pollinate the flower. The plant will die down after it has flowered. It likes a full sun to part shade position, in well-draining soil.
