A native to the central United States, this deciduous and loosely-branched shrub grows to about 1 to 1.5m tall. Golden yellow trumpet-shaped flowers appear in racemes in spring and emit a strong clove-like fragrance which are followed by clusters of large round black currants which ripen in late season. Fruit can be eaten raw from the shrub or made into juices, jams and pies.
